Calgary Roughnecks Fundraiser with WISE


Join WISE to see the Calgary Roughnecks face the Toronto Rock on Saturday, March 24th at 7pm! Lower-bowl seats and group tickets are available while supplies last for only $22.50, with $5.00 from this cost supporting WISE. WISE Food Bank Drive with SU Campus Food Bank

Have non-perishables, spare change or food that you could donate? WISE will be participating in the SU Campus Food Bank. This is administered through SU Volunteer Services and provides a seven day emergency food relief service to the campus community. Every 3 donations can go towards 1 volunteer hour with WISE and you will be donating towards a great cause! Please drop by the WISE office in SA 120 to make your donation before March 15th! 

Here is a list of the top items that we are hoping to collect for the Food bank:

  • Monetary donations
  • Boxed macaroni and cheese
  • Pasta sauce, tomato sauce and tomato paste
  • Pasta and dry soup (Ichiban, Mr. Noodles, etc.)
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Canned meat (ham, turkey, chicken) and seafood (salmon, tuna, sardines)
  • Meal helper (Sidekicks, Hamburger Helpers, Uncle Ben’s, etc.)
  • Peanut Butter
  • Coffee, tea and hot chocolate
  • Toiletries (toilet paper, menstrual hygiene products, travel-sized deodorant, bar soap, etc.)

Food donations are always appreciated but monetary donations can go towards providing nutritionally balanced hampers that include perishable items such as fresh vegetables, milk and eggs.

WRC Drive for Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter

This month the WRC will be collecting donation items for the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter. The items will be collected for women fleeing emergency situations who may not have the time to grab the items they need or the finances to purchase them. Below is a list of essential materials the shelter needs but feel free to bring anything else you believe to be beneficial. Donations will be collected until March 30th at 3pm in the WISE office in SA 120. For every 3 donations brought you can log one volunteer hour with WISE!

WISE Appreciation Night


Our WISE closing event for this year will be coming soon and will be hosted to thank all the members, profs, mentors, and more who have been a part of WISE. This will be a great opportunity to de-stress before finals. Members will get a chance to network with friends over chocolate fondue, and game booths. They can also win prizes including the “WISE Finals Survival Kit”.

Communication and Credibility PDW

Our guest speaker, Julie Murrell, a professional image consultant, will explain the importance of effective verbal and non-verbal communication and the impact it has on how employers, clients, and coworkers will view you. Through this workshop, you will learn how to boost your credibility through your communication, ultimately allowing you to present the best version of yourself to others.

WISE Easter Egg Hunt

Interested in teaming up with your friends and winning some goodies? The WISE Easter Egg Hunt is returning again this April! Eggs will be able to be found throughout Science, Engineering and Mac Hall Buildings April 9th & 10th. The first people who return to the WISE office with enough photographed eggs will earn top prizes of candy and other swag! Keep an eye out for the special “Golden Egg” which will have some awesome special prizes! This event is open to all student participation.

8th Earth Science for Society Exhibition

Earth Science for Society (ESfS) is a free, three-day event that showcases the importance and impact of Earth Science in our everyday lives. Visitors will enjoy a wide variety of stimulating, interactive activities offered by enthusiastic exhibitors including WISE.  Also on Sunday March 18th, the Geo-Theatre will showcase two geoscience presentations. Dr. Ross Lockwood will tell us about steps we can take to achieving our dreams in his talk “Everyday Astronaut” and Dr. Jon Noad will give some clues into “How and Where to Find Fossils in Alberta.

Be inspired by a diverse group of women professionals working in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. After the discussion, there will be an opportunity to network with the panelists and other industry professionals, and ask them questions about their work in STEM. Grow in Diversity: A Panel to Celebrate Anita Borg's Birthday

Diversity in Engineering

On February 10, 2016, the Engineering Students' Society (ESS) and Women in Science and Engineering club (WISE) at the University of Calgary will be proudly presenting "Diversity in Engineering Night", sponsored by Fluor and General Electric. Attendees will have a chance to participate in discussions and listen to presentations on important topics such as mentorship in the workplace, gender/sexuality, and the changing work environment in the 21st century. There will also be a mini design activity to test your teamwork and problem solving skills. Not only will there be informative presentations and interactive discussions, but also the opportunity to network with industry professionals and ask them questions about their careers. This is a free event with food and drinks provided but space is limited so please sign up!

Science & Engineering Research Night

  • Excellent networking opportunity for students who are interested in completing a summer research term
  • Students can learn about the process of applying for research awards
  • Inspire student body to pursue a career in Research and Development
Research Night is an opportunity for professors to showcase their work and meet some of the undergraduate students interested in research in science and engineering. Students will get the unique opportunity to network with professors and organizations that fund undergraduate student research. This is a great opportunity for students looking for summer research positions or even a masters program.

WISE Presents: UofC's Got Talent on Wednesday March 26th, 2014

The annual WISE Scholarship has now been linked to a talent show!

  • 1st place: $500
  • 2nd place: $300
  • 3rd place: $100

Come attend this free show, with acts include singing, breakdancing, hip-hop, bollywood and ballet. Concession proceeds go to the Calgary Women's Shelter.
