WISE is proud to hold a booth at the BMO center during Earth Sciences Day where we create cool experiments and teach young children about science and engineering!


Knoxville BBQ

Get your choice of a hot dog or burger with a pop for $5 and a free Knoxvilles ticket for student's night! All proceeds will go towards helping to fund the WISE scholarship!


Governor General Book Launch

Join us to celebrate the Calgary launch of Ingenious: How Canadian Innovators Made the World Smarter, Smaller, Kinder, Safer, Healthier, Wealthier, and Happier, published by Signal/McClelland & Stewart.
Canadians have a knack for innovation, and our prosperity as a nation is more dependent than ever on fresh ideas. As a way to spark new waves of creativity leading to the next innovations, Governor General David Johnston and Tom Jenkins have co-authored Ingenious, a book about hundreds of Canadian innovations that make the world a smarter, smaller, kinder, safer, healthier, wealthier, and happier place.

ProtoChallenge


Date: March-April 2017

ProtoChallenge is a 24 hour challenge where groups of students pitch ideas to help the community and build a prototype to gain skills, find potential employers, and win prizes. Some of the perks include access to our resume database, learning from experts, and food! Free for undergraduate and graduate students and $5 for new graduates. What do you have to lose?


Women's STEM Panel & Networking Event, Sponsored by GE

The University of Calgary, Career Services and Women's Resource Centre, in partnership with General Electric, and in collaboration with WISE club and WIL club, are pleased to host a “Women in STEM” Panel & Networking evening. Be inspired by a diverse group of women professionals working in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. After the discussion, there will be an opportunity to network with the panelists and other industry professionals, and ask them questions about their work in STEM. This event is sponsored by GE, and light refreshments will be served.


Grow in Diversity: A Panel to Celebrate Anita Borg's Birthday

In celebration of Anita Borg's birthday, a group of students from the Computer Science Department presents Grow in Diversity, a panel discussion on key soft skills for teaching and working in a diverse environment. Come have a bite to eat, meet others, and expand your soft skills! We also have swag to give out as a thank you.

Diversity in Engineering

Date: February 2016

On February 10, 2016, the Engineering Students' Society (ESS) and Women in Science and Engineering club (WISE) at the University of Calgary will be proudly presenting "Diversity in Engineering Night", sponsored by Fluor and General Electric. Attendees will have a chance to participate in discussions and listen to presentations on important topics such as mentorship in the workplace, gender/sexuality, and the changing work environment in the 21st century. There will also be a mini design activity to test your teamwork and problem solving skills. Not only will there be informative presentations and interactive discussions, but also the opportunity to network with industry professionals and ask them questions about their careers. This is a free event with food and drinks provided but space is limited so please sign up!


Science & Engineering Research Night

Date: October 2015-2017

  • Annual event for professors to display their field of research in various disciplines of Engineering and Science
  • Excellent networking opportunity for students who are interested in completing a summer research term
  • Students can learn about the process of applying for research awards
  • Inspire student body to pursue a career in Research and Development
Research Night is an opportunity for professors to showcase their work and meet some of the undergraduate students interested in research in science and engineering. Students will get the unique opportunity to network with professors and organizations that fund undergraduate student research. This is a great opportunity for students looking for summer research positions or even a masters program.

WISE Presents: UofC's Got Talent on Wednesday March 26th, 2014

Date: March 2014

The annual WISE Scholarship has now been linked to a talent show!

  • 1st place: $500
  • 2nd place: $300
  • 3rd place: $100

Come attend this free show, with acts include singing, breakdancing, hip-hop, bollywood and ballet. Concession proceeds go to the Calgary Women's Shelter.
